There was a packed house inside Salt Ayre for the clash of the titans.....
On Saturday March 26th the Albion Fans' team travelled to Morecambe to take on their counterpartsfrom up north. Albion started the game well and took the lead early on when Jonesy chested down a corner straight to the foot of Tom who lashed it into the net from close range. Things seemed to be going ok, until Morecambe started making rolling subsitutions every 5 minutes. With Albion not having any subs, this meant that Morecambe were much fresher throughout and in the end their somewhat dodgy tactic meant that Albion could do little to stop them, as they tired towards the end. Morecambe managed to score seven, although the scoreline would have been closer if Albion had made the most of some good chances. Towards the end Albion grabbed a second goal. A back-pass to Morecambe's (at this point young female) 'keeper lead to the award of an indirect free-kick. Jonesy beared down on the 'Keeper at lightning speed, ripping the ball from her grasp. Before she or any of the Morecambe players had time to stop it, Jonesy put the ball down and tapped it to Dave, who slotted it into the net much to Morecambe's bemusement. (Jonesy would like to thank Kevin Gall of Yeovil and some chap from Brighton, who both recently did the same thing on tv and scored identical goals, for his inspiration). Albeit a defeat, it seemed kind of a moral victory, bearing in mind Morecambe's tactics. A sumer clear-out will though be necessary if Albion are to improve for next year.
Dan F had some truly moving words on the day of the game. Prior to kick-off he had told the team that 'We're all leaders out there', and that we were to go out there and win.
He was philosophical in defeat; 'We'll learn from this', he said. Never one for cliches............

Morecambe's substitutes worry that the other 17 of them might have got stuck in traffic on the way to the ground.

Dave's shot crossed the line a split second after this photo was taken, but was ruled out by the Russian linesman. The video was sent to the FA who said they weren't interested, although 'You've Been Framed' did offer us £250 for a video of the entire game.

Liam laughs it off as the photographer informs him that he is facing the wrong way. "No wonder my back's killing!!" joked the Albion stopper.

An understandably ecstatic Liam receives the Man of the Match award from the Gaffer. Of Liam's performance, Dan said 'His saves in the early stages kept us in the lead and gave us the impetus to go on and finish the job off'. Well said Gaff.
